I saw a review in a free music newsletter of Wolf Alice’s new album which claimed that they were watering their raw sound down, presumably for the pleasure of the wider public – the Liz Kendall of Indie. Based on this as well as the new version of Bros and You’re A Germ (and the track selection for the new album, perhaps most tellingly) I’m struggling to disagree. The band are beginning to sound like they’ve abandoned both their folk and grungy roots for a more R&B Haim/1975 sound. I’m paticurley gutted that the lo-fi, beautiful grunge sound seems to be disappearing, but it would be a good/great thing if it got more people to Wolf Alice’s shows, which I’ve heard are fabulous.
