Wolf Alice have been around for a few years now, but you can still find┬átheir early self promoting (‘If you liked this you’ll LOVE THIS’) comments on Nirvana and Bon Iver videos amongst others.

You could probably accurately describe the band as a mixture of those two, but off the back of tracks like this it’s more accurate to compare them to the Smashing Pumpkins.

The mastering of both quiet and loud is something both have in common, and – vitally – the tension building, gasp inducing half seconds previous to the choruses is also held in common. Those moments are present in Today, 1979 and others by the Smashing Pumpkins. The fact that it’s also present here is one of the reasons they’re probably this year’s biggest new guitar band.

If they don’t make it, no one will.
